When it rains

Look up.

Beyond the dark clouds is the unseen

In which lies my greatest fears and my greatest dreams

But I will not need to ask Al-Fattah to open up the skies

When the smell of sweet musk wafts out of the gates of Jannah

The thought of it carves a small crevice of a smile on my face

I once feared the rain

but now it is what I embrace

If my dua is accepted when the clouds are heavily pregnant

Then I beg you for an eternal waterfall

to wash away the dirt that stains my thoughts

And cleanse me of the filth that awaits at every turn

Let it rain so I can

soak in your Mercy

drown in your Rizq

Keep my tongue moist with Your remembrance

Until the earth is drenched in Your Love

Let it rain

So it can seep between the dry cracks that divide us and mould us into one

So that the terrain between us that was once rough

Becomes smooth and soft that we slip and fall into each other’s arms

Let it rain because the world is on fire

But only You can douse the flames that burn

And calm the raging sea inside of me

I used to run from the rain,

but now the pitter patter that dances on the concrete

is like a gentle tap on the shoulder,

reminding me that You are here and everything will be okay.

The thought of it carves a small crevice of a smile on my face

I once feared the rain

but now it is what I embrace
